During the class I will talk extensively about colour choices and techniques and the exact colours I'm using as I'm using them. You do not need the same exact colours as me, only similar colours which are outlined below.
🗓 Tuesday 22nd July
This is the bit that often stops people before they even start — I’ll show you how to trace your butterfly image onto your pastel paper (I’ll be using a 21cm square of Pastelmat, including a border). Then we’ll walk through how to choose your colours — bring a scrap of pastel paper to test on. I’ll have the mic open for questions about your colour choices too!
🗓 Tuesday 29th July
We’ll begin with the background around and above the butterfly, then gently start the butterfly itself.
🗓 Tuesday 5th August
We’ll continue working on the butterfly and develop more of the background.
🗓 Tuesday 12th August
This week, we’ll add the flower and bring the painting to a gentle finish.
Tuesday evenings 6.50pm (BST) which is 1.50pm (EST)
Fully recorded for later viewing.
You favourite pastel paper 21cm x 21cm (8.25 inches). I'll be using Pastelmat.
For the tracing you'll need graphite or other transfer paper and an HB pencil.
If you are drawing freehand or with the grid (not pastel paper) you will want to have some tracedown transfer paper or graphite transfer paper to transfer it to the pastel paper afterwards.
Pastel Pencils, Sticks Or Pans
You can use either pastel pencils, pastel sticks or pan pastel. Use whichever you have available. I will show you how to choose your colours in week one.
You'll need blues like cobalt and ultramarine, warm browns like burnt sienna. Your darkest sepia brown, ochres and your whitest white pastel pencil. I'll be helping you choose your colours in week 1.
