“Sue is an incredibly kind and patient teacher.”

I first met Wendy at my 2018 Hampshire Open Studios. She was really keen to have a go at using soft pastel, so I invited her to join my beginners day workshop. Wendy definitely discovered a hidden talent that day and she’s been pastelling ever since.

Here’s Wendy’s experience in her own words:

“Sue is an incredibly kind and patient teacher. I first met her at an art exhibition and was captivated by her soft pastel rabbit painting. I told her, ‘I could never do that,’ and she simply said, ‘I can teach you how.’ She did exactly that.”

Wendy began with that first beginner workshop and left with a piece she was genuinely proud of. Since then, she’s taken in-person classes, full-day workshops, and Sue’s online tutorials which kept her going through lockdown.

She’s learned to draw donkeys, sunsets, roses, and more. Each tutorial brings something new and fun, and Sue always encourages trying different subjects and techniques, even cake decorating dyes for backgrounds!
